TRASH COLLECTIONS
Several trucks are used to collect different types of debris in order to keep materials separated by disposal type. The County landfill can then receive and properly dispose of specific materials in accordance with state regulations. Trash for collection should be placed curbside the evening before collection. This will help keep the streets clean and safe. We utilize mechanical "claw" collection equipment to pick up the heavy debris. This system reduces injuries to our staff from having to lift and carry heavy materials from the ground into the large trucks.

*****NOTICE OF CHANGE IN SERVICE*****
***EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 15, 2008***

Curbside debris will no longer be picked up on the same day as your garbage; it will be picked up the following day. Residents must place their curbside debris with their garbage to allow Public Services crews to mark the location ahead of time.
The Town of Mount Pleasant is installing a new, high tech way of locating, marking, and categorizing standard piles of residential trash left out for pick up. Trash includes leaves, brush, appliances, furniture, etc. We do not collect contractor or construction debris.

The new system lets the sanitation truck drivers electronically mark trash you leave out for pick up on the day they pick up your garbage. At the end of the day, the locations are sent to a mapping system that allows supervisors to determine the specific areas that will need trash collection.

The sanitation crews will use these maps the next day to pick up your trash in a much more efficient manner. This system will drastically decrease the miles that collection crews will have to cover. It will save your tax dollars, increase fuel efficiency, reduce carbon fuel emissions, and decrease wear and tear on the Town’s infrastructure.

ALL ITEMS MUST BE PLACED IN SEPARATE PILES IN ORDER TO BE COLLECTED
- Metal & Old Appliances
- Furniture
- Tree Limbs (no stumps)
- Leaves and Grass Clippings (need to be in bags - we recommend using clear plastic bags)

(Sorry, our division cannot collect these items -- landfill regulations prohibit it!)
- Engine Parts
- Hazardous materials - such as old pesticides
- Old Computers
- Oil (used oil can be recycled of at our Six Mile Facility)
- Tires
- Batteries
- Wet Paint

- Contractor generated debris from construction, demolition, remodeling, or landscaping (these materials should be hauled away by your contractor and disposed of properly)

TIPS YOU CAN USE
- Tree limbs should be cut into 8 to 10-foot long sections and no more than 8 to 10 inches in diameter.
- Dry your old paint before placing it out for collection
- Place separate items in separate piles (metal, limbs, bagged debris, and furniture)
- The Town sells large clear plastic bags for bagging your lawn debris. Bags can be purchased at the Town Hall Complex off of Houston Northcutt Boulevard. The bags come in bundles of 10 for $2.00.
- Remove refrigerator doors and put the opening towards the ground when placing out for pickup- for safety's sake!
- We recommend placing the trash material on the road by the curb not on your lawn (unless the road is too narrow)and not on top of the storm drain. This will reduce damages to your grass and the storm drain inlets, which can be crushed by the equipment.
- Be Advised - do not put items at or near the curb that you do not want collected!
