REPORT IT!
Residents are encouraged to participate in storm water activities. The best service that our residents can provide is to keep us informed of problems that they find or experience. While we cannot perform work on every call, we can provide recommendations for property owners to consider. We use the information to schedule repairs, service requests, and future projects. Your information is a critical component of our operations. We receive the following reports to determine where service is needed.
Requests from residents
Reports of problems or calls for information are taken through the stormwater management office at 856-2157. Staff performs site visits to evaluate the scope of service needed. Residents play an important role in locating problems with the drainage systems. By reporting problems quickly, residents help us to schedule repairs before the problem becomes dangerous or a flood hazard.
Spill Response
Because storm drainage systems do not flow to a treatment plant, we make every effort to reduce the impact of spilled or improperly disposed chemicals and materials on our environment. The office will investigate spill reports to evaluate the threat to the drainage system and environment. Staff will investigate the cause of the spill, coordinate with State government, investigate to determine the responsible party, and oversee clean-up and mitigation efforts. The responsible party is responsible for all clean-up costs and every effort is made to determine the responsible party and recoup any costs incurred.
System Inspections
Large drainage ditches are inspected twice every year. Staff checks for items in the ditch that may cause water to back up and cause flooding. Piped drainage systems are inspected on a revolving schedule to determine areas that require cleaning or maintenance.
Critical findings (public safety hazards) such as sinkholes, broken storm drain tops, or blocked drains are given first priority, however problems that require the construction or reconstruction of drainage systems are evaluated separately during a yearly review process.
Rain Events
Staff responds to every rain event to monitor conditions and areas with potential flooding issues. Residents experiencing flooding should contact the Stormwater Management office at 856-2157 during working hours or the Police Department at 884-4176 after hours.
