MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (Dec. 15, 2009) – Mount Pleasant Mayor Billy Swails and Mount Pleasant Town Council members John Burn, Nick Collins, Linda Page, and Thomasena Stokes-Marshall recently helped OL Thompson Construction CEO and staff cut the ribbon at the newly constructed Sweetgrass Basket Boulevard. The new two-lane road connects Hungryneck Boulevard, which runs from US 17 to the Isle of Palms Connector, to Six Mile Road and provides another alternative for motorists. The new boulevard came under budget and on time and offers an attractive mulched median with palmetto trees and greater pedestrian connectivity with new walkways.
The cost of the project came under the projected budget of $3.4 million and was funded by the Town of Mount Pleasant General Fund and transportation impact fees. This road section will reduce truck transportation in the Six Mile community as most Public Services vehicles will not access the Isle of Palms Connector through that neighborhood. Sweetgrass Basket Boulevard will also provide a more efficient route for fire department vehicles leaving Fire Station 4, on Six Mile Road.
