MOUNT PLEASANT, SC - The Town of Mount Pleasant was again one of the beneficiaries of funds raised during the Isle of Palms Connector Run and Walk for the Child. At a Mount Pleasant Exchange Club meeting on December 10, net proceeds totaling over $50,000 from the 2008 Isle of Palms Connector Run and Walk for the Child were distributed to various local child-related charities and organizations. These funds were raised during the 16th annual race, which took place on October 4, 2008.

The Town of Mount Pleasant was awarded $5,000 for its Recreation Department child-related programs and activities.

Funds recipients also included the Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center, HALOS (Helping and Lending Outreach Support), MUSC Children’s Hospital, Darkness to Light, Lowcountry Orphan Relief, Windwood Farm Home for Children, Parents Anonymous, as well as the Exchange Clubs of Mount Pleasant and Isle of Palms, the Town of Mount Pleasant Recreation Department and the City of Isle of Palms Recreation Department.

In attendance at the presentation to receive the check for the Town was Town of Mount Pleasant Council Member and Chair of the Recreation Committee Gary Santos. Mount Pleasant Recreation Department Director Ken Ayoub also attended the event. The donation will be used to help fund Mount Pleasant Recreation Department youth athletics and programming.

The 17th Annual Isle of Palms Connector Run and Walk for the Child is set for October 3, 2009. The Isle of Palms Connector Run and Walk for the Child, is a 10K run and 5K run and walk event organized by a volunteer-run board. The race is held annually on the first Saturday in October, with the goal of supporting the local prevention of child abuse and other child-related programs through an annual donation of the race’s net proceeds.
