MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (December 10, 2008) –
Families and friends of service men and women will soon have the unique opportunity to honor their loved ones at the Memorial Waterfront Park. The Town of Mount Pleasant is unveiling today a commemorative brick program to honor veterans living or deceased who have served their country bravely and honorably.

Located at the foot of the Ravenel Bridge, the state-of-the-art new park will feature a war memorial, which will include a sculpture, a reflective pool, and brick-lined paths leading to a granite wall memorializing the names of Mount Pleasant soldiers who died in combat for the undying cause of freedom.

“It is on these brick paths that we would like to engrave the names of service men and women. The brick program will allow us to extend our gratitude to all veterans – not simply Mount Pleasant soldiers who have died on the battlefield – by inscribing their names along the pathways leading to the memorial,” said Mayor Harry M. Hallman, Jr. “I urge all residents to commemorate a loved one with a special brick purchase.”

“The Memorial Waterfront Park will open late spring/early summer of next year,” said Ashley McKenzie, the community development and tourism officer for the Town of Mount Pleasant. “You may honor any veteran with the purchase of a brick and a commemorative inscription stating the rank and name, branch of service, and conflict(s) served. To ensure proper placement prior to the grand opening, we must receive your orders no later than April 15, 2009.”

The Town of Mount Pleasant offers several payment options, including check, money order, credits cards and online registration. Each brick will cost $60 and an additional $2 convenience fee will be applied to all credit card orders. The Town of Mount Pleasant Community Development and Tourism Office reserves the right to deny any order that it deems inappropriate, and does not take responsibility for the verification of the information provided by the purchaser.
