BOTF Committee donates to local charities |
Blessing of the Fleet fundraising, corporate sponsorship at an all time high
Mount Pleasant, SC (June 22, 2006) – At the June Town Council meeting, the Blessing of the Fleet Committee composed of Ann Magwood (chair), Su McManus-Frost (co-chair), Maureen Geisler, Tressy Mellenchamp, Jennifer Ray, Michelle Adams and Monique Semper-Flynn presented East Cooper Habitat for Humanity and the South Carolina Shrimpers Association with a donation of $4,700 each raised during the 19th Blessing of Blessing of the Fleet and Seafood Festival on April 30. These donations represent the largest amount fundraised to date during the festival.
The event, partially funded by the Town of Mount Pleasant Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee, is organized by the Blessing of the Fleet Committee which sells souvenirs, concessions and festival T-shirts to benefit local charities. The proceeds of the fundraising benefit the South Carolina Shrimpers Association and other local charities selected and rotated each year by the committee.
“The Blessing of the Fleet is attended by more than 12,000 visitors and residents every year,” said Su McManus-Frost. “The festival draws attention to the Lowcountry shrimping industry and is an integral part of the culture of Mount Pleasant. As festival goers increase their support of the shrimping industry, the BOTF committee looks for new ways to create fundraising opportunities for the festival.”
Corporate sponsorships – with the participation of Lucey Mortgage Corporation as the first presenting sponsor in the history of the festival – are at an all time high. “This year, more than $5,800 was raised through sponsors allowing us to address operational expenses and permitting us to concentrate on the fundraising aspect of the festival,” added McManus-Frost.
