East Cooper Triathlon details unveiled at Breach Inlet March 4
MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (March 3, 2005) – Elected officials and staff from five major local entities will announce the unveiling of a new triathlon race scheduled to take place in April East of the Cooper. The press conference will be held on Friday, March 4, 2005 at 11:00 AM, Breach Inlet, Sullivan’s Island, by The Town of Sullivan’s Island, The Town of Mount Pleasant, The City of Isle of Palms, Mount Pleasant Waterworks and the Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission.
The 2005 East Cooper Triathlon Race, the first of its kind in the Lowcountry will soon kickoff on Sunday, April 17, 2005 at 7:30 am at the Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission facility located at the Isle of Palms County Park. This exciting event, featuring a .6-mile swim, a 16-mile bike and a 5-mile run is sure to test local athletes in a comprehensive and multi-talented way.
Originally spearheaded by Mount Pleasant Council Member and Recreation Chair Gary Santos, the idea was embraced by co-sponsors Mount Pleasant Town Council, the Town of Sullivan’s Island, the City of Isle of Palms, Mount Pleasant Waterworks and the Charleston County Recreation and Park Commission.
“The event exemplifies what good comes of municipal involvement and partnership,” said Gary Santos. “The 2005 East Cooper Triathlon represents communities at their best working toward the common good of public recreation, health, fitness and quality of life. We are very grateful for this interagency support.”
