ArtFest 2005 keeps diversity alive! |
MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (March 2, 2005) – Diversity will continue to be a key element of the 2005 Mount Pleasant ArtFest with Towne Centre when performers from varied ethnic traditions share their talents with the public from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, March 19.
As in years past, TV sponsor WCBD TV 2 will emcee the event. The Mount Pleasant Artist Guild will display over 100 entries. The entries will be judged and spectators have the chance to vote on the people’s choice award, Best of Show, 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes. A show composed of more than 18 artisans will offer handmade arts and crafts.
Children’s activities will include sweetgrass basketry with Harriet Brown, six assorted craft booth from the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department, beading, chalkboard drawing, face painting with Susan Fedor and JJ the Gypsy and clay with Theresa Wooten. Children can obtain free fingerprinting from the police department, explore the world of fire trucks, climb a wall or play in a jump castle. Street musicians and roving artists will include a mime, clowns and barber shop chorus.
Main stage performances will include new comers this year. Mount Pleasant School of Performing Arts, Na Fidleiri the Charleston young Celtic fiddlers and the Columbia Nuestras Patria performing traditional Columbia pieces. Returning performers include: Fort Sumter Barbershop Chorus, the Academy of Dance Arts, Tapios School of Gymnastics and Dance and Drake School of Irish Dance.
