Mayor Hallman Issues Black History Proclamation in Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant, SC (February 10, 2005) –
At the February Town Council Meeting, Mayor Harry M. Hallman, Jr. and Mount Pleasant Town Council reflected on the rich history and teachings of African Americans by issuing a proclamation honoring and affirming the importance of Black History Month and Black History throughout our American experience.

“The history of people of African heritage goes back thousands of years and includes some of the greatest, most advanced and innovative societies in the history of human existence,” read town administrator Mac Burdette. “Black History Month is a time for all Americans to reflect on the rich history and teachings of African Americans whose contributions are vast and wide.”

Greater Goodwill AME Church Reverend McPherson, accompanied by more than 20 local church officials and parishioners, joined Mayor Hallman on stage during the proclamation. “The local African American churches, the community leaders, and many individuals in the Town of Mount Pleasant are dedicated to the principal of fostering civic, economic and educational programs throughout the Town of Mount Pleasant and are dedicated to encouraging reflection on the rich history and teachings of African Americans and bearing witness to the progress, beauty and achievements they have made throughout our community,” wrote Hallman in his proclamation.

Mayor Hallman concluded the ceremony by urging all citizens to join in celebrating the diversity and character of our community and highlighting the importance of sharing our culture, customs and traditions with those around us.”
